How To Walk With God In Our Modern World

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
3 Jn. 1:4

In the Bible, we are encouraged to “walk with God”. In short, this simply means to live for God. The whole Bible is full of those who walked with God and those who chose not to. We have the same choice today. We can either choose to walk with God (live for God) or to not walk with God. Of course, we pay the consequences, be they good or bad, for our decisions here.

The simple fact is that the way to walk with God, in the midst of our modern world, is simply the way that every generation of believers have. Just keep walking with God! Just keep obeying God’s Word. Keep worshipping Him, loving Him and living for Him. Every one of us gets the opportunity to make those decisions. And those decisions have a way of making every one of us.

“In the Bible, we are encouraged to ‘walk with God’.
In short, this simply means to live for God.”

The Book of Ephesians, in the New Testament, gives us five areas to walk with God. Take these five areas out of Bible leather and put them into shoe leather. Keep walking with God. Stay in step with God. Follow God.

  1. DON’T WALK (LIVE) LIKE YOU USED TO WALK (LIVE)

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Eph. 2:2

Jesus Christ wants to change our lives as well as our direction. Biblical Christianity should bring a radical transformation and change of our hearts and lives. Therefore, you will live different when you walk with God. The Bible is our map, GPS or compass.

  1. WALK IN GOOD DEEDS, ACTIONS AND WORKS FOR GOD

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Eph. 2:10

These words are addressed to believers. Therefore, this is not teaching us to earn our salvation through “works” or merits. God has ordained that those who become born again believers not only have a soul saving experience, but that their daily lives are also changed. As believers, we should radiate the love of God in our world by our actions, deeds, words and good works.

  1. THINK RIGHT, WALK RIGHT & LIVE RIGHT

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Eph. 4:17

God wants us to allow Him to change our thinking. We are to no longer think like the unbelieving world who knows not God nor regards His Word or ways.

  1. WALK IN LOVE

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Eph. 5:2

Walking with God means walking in love. His love should flow through us towards all those we meet, come into contact with and influence. We should live this way because of the very love Jesus Christ has shown us. In short, we should love God and love others. This sums up the whole of Scripture!

  1. WALK AS CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Eph. 5:8

As Christians, we are to live our lives as children of light. We are to no longer be or live in darkness. The Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ and the Word in us are Light! We are to live within the light of the Lord and the Word of God at work in our hearts, souls and daily life. This should affect us in body, soul and spirit.

“Take these five areas out of Bible leather
and put them into shoe leather.”

In summary, we should…

  1. Not live like we used to.

  2. Allow our walk with God to cause us to do good, be good and make our world better.

  3. Allow God’s Spirit and Word to change our thinking, thus living, to align with God’s plan.

  4. Live our daily lives pursuing loving God and loving others.

  5. Walk or live in the illuminating truth of God, His Word and His plan.

How do we walk with God in our modern world? Just keep walking with God!
