8 Ways to Honor God in Our Daily Lives

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Prov 3:5-10

God’s Word, the Bible, teaches us to honor God. We should seek to acknowledge and honor God in all our ways. We are to honor God in all our ways and with all our substance, wealth, being, and existence. We are to honor God with the first fruits of all our increase. God blesses this. This is His plan. He blesses obedience to His plan. He knows best. God’s plan for our lives works best.

Each of us gets to choose whether we want to obey God’s plan and apply it to our lives or not. God allows us humans to make our own choices. Likewise, He allows our choices to make us day by day.

In short, it has a way of getting deep on the inside of you. You can feel it in your spirit and in your Holy Ghost bones!

The Holy Spirit inspired teachings of Proverbs 3:5-10 (see also Matt. 6:33) outlines several spiritual and practical ways to trust, acknowledge and honor God in our daily hearts and lives.

Allow me to distill them down to these 8 practical points.

1. Trust in the Lord with all our hearts

2. Lean not on just our own understanding and wisdom alone

3. Acknowledge God in all our ways

4. Be not wise in our own eyes

5. Fear, respect, love and want to obey the Lord

6. Depart and disconnect from evil

7. Honor the Lord with all our being, substance, wealth, finances and existence

8. Honor the Lord with the tithes or first fruits of all our personal increase

God allows us humans to make our own choices. Likewise, He allows our choices to make us day by day.

May we all make the right choices and seek to honor God in our daily decisions and lives.

When we seek to purposefully pursue honoring the Lord God, in our hearts and daily lives, in these ways, we will be blessed again and again. The Bible (Prov. 3:8) promises it will be spiritually nourishing and healthy medicine to our lives. In short, it has a way of getting deep on the inside of you. You can feel it in your spirit and in your Holy Ghost bones!

Over the past twenty-five years as a pastor and fellow traveler, I’ve seen these divine principles prove true in our lives as well as in the lives of the sweet people of God that Cynthia and I seek to lead and shepherd. God’s plan works best.

Every new day is a gift from God. Every morning His mercies are new. Every day is a chance to honor God afresh. May we all make the right choices and seek to honor God in our daily decisions. May we keep honoring God in our daily hearts as He leads and directs our daily path and lives.
